posted 28 Apr 2013, 09:15 by Unknown user

Punchestown 2013 – Rathcline GAA would like to thank all the people who attended as part of the two-table Rathcline GAA club contingent at this year’s event last Wednesday. The day was a massive success and one which was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to Longford GAA organisation committee on a job well done.

Club Rathcline Lotto Draw - The Jackpot total of €500 was not won this weekend with numbers drawn as follows: 18, 22, 23, 26, 32, and 42. Congratulations to our four €25 winners this week as follows: (1) James Harold – Main St., Lanesboro (2) Pauric Brewster, Clonbonny; (3) PJ Donnellan – Rathcline Rd (4) Eugene Hester – Knock. Next week’s Jackpot will €600.

Reserve League – Our Intermediate League team took a setback in Rd.6 of Reserve League 2 at the weekend when we were narrowly defeated by Moydow in Clonbonny. Final Score: Rathcline 2-12, Moydow 2-14. Saturday’s defeat was the first setback for the team this year and we will want to return to winning ways in this competition as quick as possible.

Senior League – Next weekend sees the return of Division 1 Leader Cup action when Rathcline play away to Dromard on next Friday evening 3rd May. The game will take place in Pairc na nGael at 8pm. The team will be hoping to continue on their winning ways in Div 1 after defeating Carrickedmond in Round 2. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Clonbonny Caretakers – April marks the end of the of Minor/Ladies combination for caretaker role in Clonbonny. The senior club would like to complement the work undertaken over the last two months. We received many complements from people on how well Clonbonny looked at Saturday evening’s game vs. Moydow. Well done to all concerned.

Shannon Gaels/Western Gaels – Under 14: Commiserations to our U14 team who were beaten by Granard/Ballymore last Tuesday evening 23rd April in Dunbeggan on a final score: Western Gaels 1-02, Granard/Ballymore 3-19. The team play Round 4 of the league against Carrick Sarsfields on Tuesday evening coming 30th April in Michael Moran Park at 7pm. Round 5 takes place a week later on Tuesday 7th May when Western Gaels play host to St. Francis in Clonbonny at 7:30pm. We wish the team and management the very best of luck in these games. It was a tough week for our U16 Western Gaels team suffering two losses in the Division 1 League. On Monday evening 22nd April, Western Gaels went down to St. Colmcilles on a final score: Western Gaels 1-11, St. Colmcilles 3-08. Then on Saturday evening 27th April, the team was desperately unlucky in the narrow defeat to Northern Gaels in Abbeylara with the final score Western Gaels 1-07, Northern Gaels 1-09. The performances have been excellent in running the traditionally big underage teams close. Hopefully lady luck will change in our favour in the next Juvenile outing. Coaching for U6, U8, U10 and U12 will continue on Friday 03rd May in Clonbonny from 7pm to 8pm. Parents are reminded that children will not be able to train or play matches unless each child is properly registered. Registration forms will be available on Friday (membership fee is €5 for U6, and all other age groups are €25 per child or €35 per family – 2 children or more). All underage players are required to wear a mouth-guard during training and matches. The Shannon Gaels executive committee are encouraging more parents to come out and help and support our young players on the Friday night sessions.

County Minor – Best of luck to Shane Kenny, Eoin Sorohan and Gareth Johnston (team trainer) in Round 1 of the Leinster Minor Championship this coming Wednesday night 1st May when Longford play Meath away in Pairc Tailteann – Navan at 7.30pm.

Croagh Patrick Sponsorship Walk 2013 – This year’s event will take place in two week’s time on Saturday 11th May. At this stage everyone who is taking part should be allocated to a team and have their own sponsorship card. Cards are readily available from our financial committee members or indeed any executive member. We are looking for a big uptake from the parish and to make it a weekend to remember. This event is more than just a fundraiser for the club but a social outing for our members, friends and parishioners with a night out in Westport town. Based on previous year’s outings to Croagh Patrick, the club has experienced an enjoyable and rewarding day out with lots of crack in the process. The club has booked a limited number of apartments in the harbour mills accommodation centre in Westport at €45 per person. Please contact Lorraine Farrell ASAP on (087) 6827966 if you are interested in availing of this accommodation service.

Commiserations to the Rathcline Ladies contingent (Lauren, Claire, Noleen & Laura) that are a part of the Longford Ladies team which were defeated in the League final by Down on Sunday.
