There is only one more week left to buy a ticket for the annual New Year’s draw which takes place on Saturday 19th Jan in Adies Bar at 11pm. Tickets are in circulation around the parish and beyond and are priced at €20. There are ten fantastic cash prizes as follows: 1st Prize: €3,000, 2nd Prize: €1,000, 3rd Prize: €750, 4th Prize: €500, 5th Prize: €250, 6th Prize to 10th Prize: €200. The club relies heavily on the success of this fundraiser to pay for team affiliation and insurance requirements for the season ahead. Your support would be much appreciated. Ticket sellers can return stubs and money to our new treasurer Albert Cooney, assistant treasurers Chris Cullen / Seamus Flynn or indeed any member of the Executive between now and next Saturday evening. A club text message will be circulated through the week informing all patrons of where and when they can submit their sold tickets and funds.

Congratulations to both Shane Donoghue and Liam Connerton who are a part of the Longford U21panel who were victorious against Wicklow in Rd.2 of the Hastings Cup. After two wins in a row in the competition, the team have now topped Group 1 and will feature in the final on Saturday 26th Jan.

Leinster Finalists! - Congratulations to the Longford Vocational Schools team who had a fantastic victory one point over Dublin at the Cashel grounds on Saturday afternoon. There is a very strong local connection with the team with Shane Kenny, Eoin Sorohan, Jack Rooney, Diarmuid Murtagh and Shane Cosgrave. The team take on the winners of Kildare and Meath in two weeks time in the Leinster Final. It was one Saturday which Shane Kenny will never forget – read on!

Pride of Parish – Congratulations to the Shannon Gaels Scór na nÓg Novelty act team who qualified for the All Ireland Final at Saturday’s Leinster Final at Erin’s Isle GAA club in Finglas. The team has built on the success of last year’s Leinster final to go one step further in search of All Ireland Glory.  This achievement marks a fantastic milestone in the history of Shannon Gaels. Team members include: Dearbhail Flood, Shane Kenny, Lauren Guinan, Niall Keane, Laura & Anna Peters, Andrew Ward and Jack O’ Loughlin.  They have done our club, parish and county proud. Great credit must also go the background team and parents for all the work in preparing the act for the highest stage in the land. A very special recognition must go to Maura Tobin who has coached the team to success. The team has six weeks to prepare for the All Ireland Final which will be held in Derry City on Saturday 23rd February. Once again, congratulations to all concerned.
