posted 5 May 2013, 04:08 by Unknown user

The 2nd Annual Alison Smyth memorial match between Rathcline Ladies and Garrycastle Ladies will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May in Clonbonny at 4pm. All proceeds from this match will go towards a yet to be named charity. Please support this worthy cause.

Club Rathcline Lotto Draw - The Jackpot total of €600 was not won this weekend with numbers drawn as follows: 12, 16, 18, 21, 31, and 45. Congratulations to our four €25 winners this week as follows: (1) Orla Dalton - Parkmore, Galway (2) Mary & Joe Fallon – Lisrevagh (3) PJ Kirwan – Lanesboro (4) Christopher & Caroline Cullen – Rathcline Rd. Next week’s Jackpot will €700.

Senior League – On Friday night last, our senior team played Dromard in Pairc na nGael in the third round of the Leader Cup. Due to fading light and bad weather conditions on the night, the match had to be abandoned by referee John Hughes with 15 minutes left in the second half. It is expected that the game will be replayed towards the latter end of the league campaign. Next up for Rathcline is Mostrim; with the return of Enda Macken (as new Mostrim Manager) and Gerry Lynn facing his home club as Rathcline manager. The game is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 15th May in Clonbonny at 8pm.

The Mostrim game will be followed with a quick turn round time when our Reserve League team will play Ballymahon in their last round game of competition on Saturday 18th May in Leo Casey Park. Although the game is insignificant in terms of group placings (with Rathcline having already secured a home semi final), the team will be looking to put in good performance and return to winning ways after losing to Moydow in the last round.

Shannon Gaels/Western Gaels – Under 14: Commiserations to our U14 team who were beaten by Carrick Sarsfields by the narrowest of margins last Tuesday evening 30th April in Michael Moran Park on a final score: Western Gaels 5-05, Carrick Sarsfields 4-09. The team play Round 5 of the league against St. Francis - Dromard on Tuesday evening coming 7th May in Clonbonny at 7.30pm. Round 6 takes place two weeks later on Tuesday 21st May when Western Gaels play Northern Gaels in the Laurels at 7:30pm. On Saturday coming 11th May, the U14 team will take part in the annual St. Faithleachs tournament in Ballyleague.

Our U16 Western Gaels team played the first round of the Shield League competition last Thursday evening away to St. Vincents - Drumlish in Monaduff.  With a number of high profile absentees due to injury, the team lost out by the narrowest of margins on a final score: Western Gaels 3-08, St. Francis 1-15. Round 2 takes place this Thursday evening coming 09th May when the team host Northern Gaels in Clonbonny at 7:30pm.

Coaching for U6, U8, U10 and U12 will continue on Friday 10th May in Clonbonny from 7pm to 8pm. Parents are reminded that children will not be able to train or play matches unless each child is properly registered. Registration forms will be available on Friday (membership fee is €5 for U6, and all other age groups are €25 per child or €35 per family – 2 children or more). All underage players are required to wear a mouth-guard during training and matches. The Shannon Gaels executive committee are encouraging more parents to come out and help and support our young players on the Friday night sessions. Reminder to parents, that Shannon Gaels will request €2 from all underage players for upkeep of the Clonbonny GAA Facilities.

County Minor – Commiserations to Shane Kenny, Eoin Sorohan and Gareth Johnston (team trainer) who were knocked out of the Leinster Minor football championship on Wednesday evening last by Meath in Navan.

Croagh Patrick Sponsorship Walk 2013 – This year’s eagerly awaited event is now upon us and will take place next Saturday 11th May. All participants are asked to return their sponsorship money to their dedicated captains/leaders as soon as possible. Timetable arrangements will be clarified in the next couple of days, so please keep an eye on the Club Website and Facebook for more details.  We are also asking all participants to take serious notice to any instructions which come for your team leaders. We want everyone to have an enjoyable day but the most important thing is that everyone completes the challenge in the safest possible manner and no one gets injured.   The club still has a limited number of accommodation places available in the Harbour Mills centre in Westport at €45 per person. Please contact Lorraine Farrell ASAP on (087) 6827966 if you are interested in availing of this accommodation service.

Church Gate Collection – Rathcline GAA are looking for two volunteers to complete the Church Gate collection on Saturday evening next 11th May at the weekly 7:30pm mass. The collection for “the Disabled Drivers Association” is normally completed by the personnel involved with the GAA club, however due the Croagh Patrick Sponsored Climb, numbers are thin on the ground. If there is anyone who is willing to help out on Saturday; please contact Louis Skelly on (086) 2754585.
