Championship 2013 – Best of luck to our senior team in the second round of the championship against Carrickedmond which will take place next weekend on Sunday 11th August at 3:30pm in Leo Casey Park in Ballymahon. The game forms the second part of a double header at the venue; the first between Cashel and Kenagh at 2pm. Your support in Ballymahon would be much appreciated in the team’s bid to qualify for the semi final.

Galway Races – The highlight of this week’s notes is undoubtedly the huge success of the Galway Races Fundraiser which was held in Ballybrit last Monday. The club had near to full capacity attendance and a great day was had by all; with immediate calls to replicate the event at next year’s race meeting. First and foremost, the club would like to thank our event sponsor – Bernard Keane Supervalu Lanesboro for his very generous contribution to the fundraiser. Well done to our organising committee which was headed up by Albert Cooney in show casing our club in the best possible light. Many thanks to our spot-prizes sponsors who put together a very attractive raffle on the day. Prizes and winners (in brackets) as follows: 1. Johnstown House - Odie Lawlor - Weekend for two in the 5 Star Hotel (Kevin Flynn), 2. Tesco - David O' Reilly - 32" High Definition Wide Screen Television (Alan Fayne), 3. Adies Steak House - Gerard Farrell - Dinner to the value of €100 (Timmy Nolan), 4. Cullens XL - Chris Cullen - €100 Petrol/Diesel Voucher (Sean Carroll), 5. Finally we would like to thank Lydon House Catering Company for their hospitality and 5 star service in the magnificent venue at the Galway Races. We hope next year’s event will be bigger and better.  A complete suite of photos and information can be seen on our website at: www.rathcline.gaa.ie/rathcline-gaa-race-day-13.

Gathering 2013 – Congratulations to our Gathering committee in organising a hugely successful festival this August Bank Holiday weekend. The timetable of events of events over the weekend offered something for everyone and the headline acts on each of the three nights failed to disappoint. A great time was had by all and credit goes to all the organisers. Special thanks to the all club personnel who volunteered their time as stewards over the weekend.

Club Rathcline Lotto Draw - Preparations are ongoing for Phase 2 of the Lotto campaign and it is hoped to have the fundraiser rolled out in the next couple of weeks. Many thanks to all our patrons who participated in the last lotto and we look forward to your support for Phase 2.

Shannon Gaels – Coaching for U6, U8, U10 and U12 will continue in Clonbonny on Friday in Clonbonny from 7pm to 8pm as normal.

Well done to our Under 12 team who played brilliantly against Killoe in Emmet Park on Thursday evening last in Round 4 of the mini league. Round 5 continues this Thursday evening coming 8th August in Clonguish when our team play Longford Slashers at 7pm.

Western Gaels – U14 – Commiserations to our Under 14 team who exit the championship after losing to Wolfe Tones on Tuesday evening last in Clonbonny. A lot of hard work was put in by both the team and management in advance of the game and it is a pity to see an early exit from this competition for a group of players who promise so much. It needs to be pointed out that there is huge talent at this age group and the future looks bright for Rathcline GAA.  Well done to team manager Sean Kenny and his fellow selectors for all the work completed this year.

U16 – The first round of the championship is due to take place on Thursday 22nd August with an away match to St. Colmcilles. Rounds 2 & 3 will be followed on the subsequent weeks with games versus Clonguish Og and Northern Gaels respectively. Training with the Minor team this week continues per the normal routine.

Minor – The Championship semi-final will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 5th August when Western Gaels play St. Colmcilles at 7:30pm in Dunbeggan. Once again we ask all parishioners to come out and support the lads in their bid to progress to the Championship final against Southern Gaels on Monday 12th August. The team is being managed by our very own Kevin Hanley.

Gathering 2013 – Well done to Shannon Gaels Choir for the beautiful music at the Gathering Mass last Sunday morning in Lanesboro. Great credit must go to Tracey Tobin in preparing and mentoring the Choir over the last couple of weeks in the build up to the Gathering weekend. Also it is hard not to mention the fantastic work completed by Brendan Keane in getting the sound right for the big occasion. Well done to all concerned.

Best of Luck to St. Faithleachs who take on Clan na nGael in the third round of the Roscommon Senior football championship this Friday night coming in Johnstown at 8pm. A win or draw will guarantee the team automatic qualification from their group in progressing to the quarter finals.
