Rathcline Club Notes Sunday 7th September 2014

posted 10 Sep 2014, 12:02 by Rathcline Public Relations Officer

Our Intermediate team bowed out of the championship on Saturday evening. It was an exciting and end to end match. Rathcline started brightly going 5 points to 1 up, but Connollys regrouped and a goal for them changed the complexion of the first half. Rathcline played some of their best football all year, and showed a hunger in the middle third that allowed our forwards to take their scores. The second half saw Rathcline having to go for the win. Again their heads could have dropped when Connollys scored a second goal, but to the lads credit they fought back. A Michael Morrissey goal set up a pulsating finish and with Liam Connerton finding the net, the game was a draw heading into injury time. Rathcline mounted a few attacks but no score was forth coming, alas for the Rathcline team, Connollys took a couple of scores with time nearly up. At this point I must thank all the players for their hard graft at training all year, not many would see the effort and sacrifice they put in, but it was very much respected from management. Also to the trainers and management, never an easy job, they guided the team to a semi final and I can say personally it was a priviledge working with them. Its over for 2014, but then again there is always another year, thats the wonderful thing about football.

The hurling final tickets were won by Adie Farrell, second prize went to Vera Sullivan, and third prize went to Luke Cullen. Thanks to all who supported this draw. We will be bringing out the same €2 lines cards for the football final. A mouth watering clash between Kerry and Donegal, and some one will win two tickets to this final, the cards will be out in all shops around the town and parish this week, please support.

There was no lotto jackpot winner this week. The numbers drawn were 6.9,11,21,33 and 38. The €25 weekly winners were Frank and Mairead Nally Roscommon, Mark Casey Lehery, Mary Kelly Rathcline Road and Frank Curley Ballyleague.

Preparations are well under way for our strictly come dancing event with Faithleachs. This is turning into something very special with fantastic planning gone into the event, we will have more news in the next few weeks. Dancers, judges and venue all set up and this dual event will not disappoint!

Rathcline Ladies

What a brilliant result for our Senior ladies at the weekend. The team took on Colmcille in Colmcille in the semi final of the Senior B championship. A wonderful blend of youth and experience saw the girls battle back from being 5 points down at half time to eventually winning the game on a scoreline of 3-12 to 3-8. The Rathcline ladies were actually up by 10 points at one stage but Colmcille got 2 goals which brought them right back into proceedings. The ladies showed guts and determination and it was a great team performance. The final will be against Clonguish in Pearse Park this weekend. These ladies have been training hard all year and your support for the ladies would be appreciated. Please check the fixture list or facebook for time of match. The final promises to be a grat match and we wish the team and management the very best of luck!

Our Minor team continue to train and are looking forward to their next batch of games in the coming weeks.

Finally the club would like to wish all the players heading off to college the very best of luck!
